Sleep Soundly This Winter In Granny Goose Linen.

There’s nothing in this world like climbing into your cozy bed after a long day, especially in Winter. The crisp, fresh linen that’s ice cold as it first touches your skin that quickly warms your shivering body as you frantically rub your feet together.

I think back to my early teen years. I saved up for months to buy the perfect duvet set to match my baby pink room. Hot pink covered in daisies, reversible – the other side turquoise blue with hot pink polka dots. It was perfection to my thirteen year old self. But, did I love and look after that duvet set! You bet. The quality was so good that when I finally outgrew it, I passed it onto another girl who loved it just as much as I did, and she passed it onto someone else.

But, time went on and as I grew up and moved on, life changed a little. My double bed turned into a queen size bed to accommodate my man. And that turned into a King size bed… well, to accommodate a baby. And our choice of linen was just out of our reach financially. We settled for linen that was cheaper. The quality wasn’t great, and only now do I really understand how good linen can really impact your quality of sleep!

I vividly recall tossing and turning every night. Waking up feeling irritated, trying to adjust my duvet cover. That feeling of discomfort that you just can’t get rid of. Cold winter nights I would find myself shivering beneath my covers. Hot nights spent frustratingly attempting to stop our sheer covers from sticking against my body.

Making my bed was never enjoyable. It was boring. A chore. I would fight with my duvet cover to get it on, as the loose frayed threads would tangle around my fingers as I hurriedly tried to just get the task done as quickly as possible. Bed time would arrive and I’d wait until the very last minute to climb into bed hoping I would be so tired I’d fall asleep immediately.

I sound like I’m ungrateful, however, I never really realized that my linen was actually the problem until I started using linen from Granny Goose! This sounds like the perfect advertisement. Like, I found the cure to all of your problems! But, in reality – they honestly have been my perfect solution to a bad night sleep!

It created a cozy environment that very quickly became a place I felt I could escape to in order to reboot, to refresh my mind and to gain some sanity after a long day of motherhood. It has become a place that we snuggle up as a family to watch a movie. The perfect Sunday morning lie in spot that memories are created with my little boy finding his spot in the middle for tickles and stories. It’s become a place that my hubby has the desire to hang out in after a long day of work. Funny that something as simple as linen can have such a huge effect.

Their linen is obviously made from Cotton and the style we chose is made with their 200 thread 100% count cotton percale. I’ve noticed how warm and snuggly I feel even with the same duvet inner. The thread count & cotton has made the hugest difference for Winter. We also chose a gorgeous Herringbone Throw which we have been using at night too. It is a beautiful, soft throw spun from soft acrylic fibers and finished with a trendy blanket stitch. They are available in Mint & Cobblestone (and are actually on sale at the moment!). Sometimes, during the day, I will sit and work on my bed and just use it over my legs – and it warms me up immediately. Such a perfect buy!

I always thought that white would be such a silly colour to have on our bed due to having a toddler, but the marks that he has made have washed off without an effort. And, let’s be honest – there’s nothing better than fresh white linen! Right?

GrannyGoose_027GrannyGoose_1017GrannyGoose_127

I have to be totally honest and say that I have truly been enjoying my sleep at the moment. I was worrying about winter creeping up on us with the thin linen we had before that just wasn’t going to cut it for the cold nights. And we managed to get our Granny Goose linen just in time. It has made the hugest difference, and we wake up well rested!

It was such a pleasure going through the ordering process with the Granny Goose team. They are so helpful, and are incredibly well educated on their products and what will work best for you! They have a gorgeous selection, and really are well priced for the phenomenal quality. You won’t need to be replacing your linen any time soon after investing in new linen from them.

GrannyGoose_396

I just want to add that the beauty of the Granny Goose linen is that it easily fits into your current bedroom style. No need to change things around for your linen – your linen fits in, yet stands out!

GrannyGoose_1059

We obviously couldn’t forget about our fur babies either – so we decided to get one of the Pet Duvets for them. My female Alaskan Malamute is besotted with her new bed. It is super padded, warm and cozy for her, and I love it because it means I can put it on our bed or the couch and I know that the hair won’t be a problem. My Siberian Husky hasn’t had much of a chance on it yet, as Skye isn’t a fan of sharing her bed with hairy men. 😉

*I will be telling you a bit about my experience with their luxury Duck Down Pillows in my next blog post as they have totally cured the migraines that I used to wake up with almost every morning and have helped me sleep so much better at night. I’m really excited to share my thoughts and experience on this with you as I am sure that it could help a few other people too!

A Night In Hermanus: A To The Point List Of Things To Do!

Planning a night away can be a daunting experience, especially when you’re wanting to find something special to do. If you aren’t familiar with an area, you can really end up at some interesting places, which can really either be a hit or a miss.

I took my best friend away for a night in Onrus, just a 15 minute drive from Hermanus. It was just the two of us, no kids. It was a late birthday gift, and we wanted to have two days of fun. We wanted to try some new experiences. So, I took those matters into my own hands and did some research. But, I wanted to try them out for myself. So, that we did. Continue reading if you’d like to hear about what we did, where we stayed and where we ate while we were staying in Onrus.

Where did we stay?
C’est Ca Cottage: Onrus
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21051956
Price: R1203.00 per night

Although it was a short stay, we decided that we wanted to stay somewhere that would feel homely to us. We found the gorgeous C’est Ca Cottage in Onrus which was everything we wished for and more. Our host, Stuart was friendly and helpful and really made us feel at home. The cottage is in a separate area to the main house, which means that you have your own privacy and space, but are still close by in case you need anything. The cottage is stylish and was so well equipped. Had we left absolutely anything behind, we would have been sorted. They even had a mini dishwasher in the kitchen! The beds are super comfy too! I can highly recommend checking this place out as an option if you plan on visiting the area. It is just a short drive from Cape Town, and in walking distance to Onrus beach!

Where did we eat?
Oskars:
Shop 7 Carriages Centre, Main Road, Hermanus

On arrival, we made our way into Hermanus to get a couple of essentials for breakfast. Having visited Hermanus at least once a year, I had enjoyed delicious breakfasts at Oskars before they moved to a new space. They have now moved to the Woolworths center close to the book shop, and seem to have changed a little bit – but in every good way possible. They are home to the best carrot cake and cheese cake I have ever tasted. We treated ourselves to a slice of cake and a Coconut Iced Latte. Their deli and bakery is so beautifully and tastefully decorated, and really leaves you feeling happy when you visit. They do also do breakfast and lunch – however, I still need to pop in for a proper meal sometime!

Do take note that they are closed on a Sunday, so be sure to visit weekdays, or on a Saturday in normal working hours. You don’t want to miss this.

Dinner:
Molteno’s
Molteno Street, Onrus River, Hermanus
Contact for reservations:  028 316 2658

We were quite persistent to have dinner at a different restaurant, until we arrived and realized that their online menu was completely different to what they actually had to offer, as well as totally overpriced. So, we took our Airbnb hosts recommendation, and found ourselves at what he referred to as ‘the locals go-to pizzeria’. And how glad I am that we finally listened! The restaurant was cosy, and buzzing. We had great service, phenomenal pizza and good wine! The pricing is standard and we had a lovely evening. This restaurant has been around for many, many years and when you visit, you will see why! Do make a reservation to be safe, they do get very busy, especially in the holidays and over weekends.

Lunch:
Lizette’s Kitchen
20 on 8th Street, Hermanus

Another recommendation by our host of our Airbnb, as well as by another local from the area who referred to this beautiful place as ‘the place in town that the chef’s like to go to eat’. We decided that we wanted to try something slightly different. Lizette’s Kitchen was started by Lizette herself. Her website shares this: “Lizette’s culinary history includes four years as Executive Chef in the Franschhoek Valley, followed by a similar position at the famous five star Caravelle Hotel in Saigon, home once to war correspondents from all over the World. Subsequently, Lizette joined the Sailing Club Group, where Sandals restaurant was established, later escalating to four restaurants within three provinces, featuring a fusion of Western and Asian specialties’. It is here, with the amalgamation of these experiences, that Lizette’s cooking style was born, focusing on excellent flavours and freshest produce.”

My food was delicious and a real experience! The portions are large, which means you certainly are getting value for money.

There were quite a few children there with their families, however, I couldn’t shake the thought of being happy I didn’t have my busy three and a half year old son with me due to no fencing (apart from low bushes) separating the lower area to the main road. So, do keep this in mind when deciding when to visit. Perhaps drive past and check it out for yourself before making your decision. They do have lovely kiddies options on their menu.

What experiences did we do?

Millionaire Tasting
Benguela Cove
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate, R43, Hermanus, Western Cape
Price: R40pp for tasting of one wine | R55pp for tasting with two wines

BANNER

I am a sucker for sweet things, and especially something more decadent. When I heard about this Millionaire Tasting, I just had to try it for myself. We had a few hours to kill before we could check-in to our accommodation, so this was a perfect stop before continuing on our way.

The Millionaire Tasting is paired with two dessert wines, their very own Noble Late Harvest and Matilda’s Secret Natural Sweet. I personally found the wines very sweet, but I suppose the name is a give away. I had never had a dessert wine before, so I didn’t know what to expect; however, I could totally understand why these were paired together.

Now onto those Millionaire’s – I’ve never tasted something quite so close to perfection before. They were divine, and just the right quantity to not overpower your taste buds.

Tasting

The setting was breathtaking, and it was a perfect and relaxing start to our short getaway.

The lovely lady who was our hostess, gave us an indepth short description on each wine, and was divine. We really enjoyed having her give us the breakdown and we found her to be happy to answer any questions we may have had.

The décor of the tasting room was absolutely gorgeous. There was a fire lit, and music playing. Every corner has something unique that stood out to me. For a large place, they have really managed to make it something special.

This is a lovely place to stop by on your way into Hermanus.

They do various other tastings which include:

– Oyster & Wine Pairing
– Gourmet Tasting Menu Experience
– Vineyard Safari & Wine Tasting

*Please note that Benguela Cove does also have a restaurant which I have not yet been to, so cannot give my own personal review on. My review is based on the tasting room!

Pirate Golf:
Benguela Cove

Yes, I did mention that I didn’t bring my son along, but that didn’t stop us from jumping at the opportunity to let our hair loose and have some fun playing Putt-Putt. Benguela Cove’s 18-hole adventure golf course is a new addition to the wine estate.

Don’t for a second think that you can’t join in if you don’t have kids, we had such fun, and lots of laughs playing. Neither of us being overly coordinated, I think the kids playing did better than what we did.

This course has been created with so much love. I was astounded at how much effort had been put into making it so special. Each hole has something awaiting you, and I really did appreciate every little detail. It is a perfect stop if you have kids tagging along, as they have a chance to do something fun and to stretch their legs. But, also a perfect activity to do after a tasting or lunch. They do have a little shop there which enables you to buy snacks or something to drink in case you don’t want to sit and eat something at the restaurant.

It’s always fun to do something different, and this was definitely a highlight for me.

As one does, you save the best for last – and this is exactly what I’ve done. For a little background – I am (WAS) terrified of horses. I had a bad experience many years ago, which had left with a fear of even being in close proximity to a horse, not even just being on one! For anybody that knows me, they’ll be laughing right now, and they are likely to not believe what they’re about to read. Hence, so many pictures for evidence…

Now, my best friend whose birthday we went away for loves horses. If she could choose any activity, it would be to go horse riding. So, I arranged with Danie from Heaven & Earth Trails to go on a trail ride with her because I knew just how much it would mean to her. We kept this as a surprise until the night before. I’ve never experienced such excitement from another human!!!

To be totally honest, I was rather terrified the night before and leading up to it. But, this is my year of facing my fears and experiencing new things! There was no way I was backing out. With my little boy always asking to go on pony rides, I knew that it was important for me to push my fear aside so that he wouldn’t become fearful.

We took a beautiful early morning drive to the farm, and were greeted by Louzanne, the trail and field guide instructor. Within the first 10 minutes, she already had me feeling confident and more comfortable standing next to my beautiful horse. Knowing my fear, she paired me with the perfect gentle giant, Mr T. Her love for the horses is absolutely contagious and truly makes you realize just how special they are.

We were finally all ready to head out on our Standard Trail. This trail took us through the beautiful fynbos, wild flowers and the pristine mountain scenery. Louzanne, having many years experience working in Game Reserves and having done horse back safari’s in amongst some of the Big 5 has a vast knowledge of the environment that surrounds us, and stops along the way to explain amazing things. This isn’t just any horseback ride, but a phenomenal experience that you leave having learnt so much more.

What I really loved about our ride was what Louzanne and Danie’s objective is about the business – they just want people to understand the horses and to leave feeling a sort of connection with them. They want you to have a positive experience that makes you see the beauty in each of the horses.

The time flew by, and I was sad to leave. I couldn’t believe the connection I had with the horse I was riding after such a short time. They just want love and affection, and want to trust you as much as you put your trust in them.

The team is just wonderful, and you’ll love how well-loved the animals on the farm are.

This was an unforgettable experience, and I will definitely be back again.

Heaven & Earth Trails has the perfect trail and horse for everyone. Depending on your experience, they can match you to the ideal ride. Be sure to book in advance on their website to avoid any disappointment, and check out their terms and conditions regarding their weight limit, what to wear and what type of rides they don’t do.

I can’t thank Louzanne and Danie enough for changing my perspective on horses, and for helping me conquer my fear. They truly are beautiful animals, and I am so excited to have had the opportunity to experience a horse ride in a positive light.
If you were like me, and too  have a fear, this has got to be the best place for you to get your good experience that will change your perspective forever! Challenge yourself, make your booking and go! It will be life changing.
*Might I add, that although my friend is a far more experienced rider than me, she still thoroughly enjoyed going at a slower pace for me. So, she mentioned that she can still  highly recommend it for a group that is of different levels.
Please note: Kids are also welcome! They have many children who come, and Louzanne has some exciting tricks up her sleeve to keep them entertained for the full duration of the rides. Tempting? You bet!

Have you had the opportunity to explore beautiful Hermanus and surrounding areas? Be sure to share your favourite finds and things to do there!

A Year Of Adventure.

I had first heard about the Adventure Clubs app that had recently made its appearance in South Africa shortly after Olly was born. It sounded like such fun, but there were a few things holding me back from actually giving it a try…

Firstly, I was a younger mom. I wasn’t sure that I would connect with any of the other moms who had booked to go on the same adventure. And, secondly, I was a bit nervous to go on an adventure without knowing anybody else.

Image00009

I had downloaded the app on my phone, and would frequently check out the new adventures loaded for my sons age in our area. I found myself feeling really bummed that I was missing out on so many fun activities happening so close to home. Things that my son was bound to love! I was also stopping myself from making new friends.

Believe it or not, it took me over three years to finally choose an adventure to go on, and boy, am I glad I finally took that leap! We chose a surfing adventure at one of our local beaches with Surf Emporium, where not only did they get a surf lesson with a trained instructor, but were also taught some important lessons about our environment and looking after our beaches. We chose the surfing lesson because it is something that is part of our lifestyle, and I was so keen to have Olly have a proper lesson with an instructor to give him some extra confidence. It was such a fun morning! We made some new friends, and of course, the kids just gel with the others without second thought.

Image00003

I honestly cannot believe that we hadn’t gone on an adventure sooner! Every week, there will be multiple adventures added to the app in different areas, ages and categories. The festive season had the App packed with baking gingerbread houses and making Christmas decorations as well as special safari rides and outdoor activities. You generally find that you get a discount for the activity in comparison to what you would be paying to do it if you didn’t go through the arranged adventure, and you may even find that the adventures are very specially arranged, and you wouldn’t be able to do it without it being through the Adventure Clubs.

The App is FREE to download, and then you simply add in your details and you can get ready to browse the list of adventures in either Cape Town, Johannesberg or Durban.

I wanted to give one of you the opportunity to WIN and experience an adventure valued at R300 (you can choose which adventure you would like to do) in your area.

Simply download the App and tell us which adventure you would choose if you won the prize! How simple is that?

And, you have an entire year (2018) to use your prize!

I hope that you enjoy the adventures as much as we have. And maybe we will even be on an adventure together soon!

My Summer Wardrobe Essentials.

If somebody told me to think about the ideal outfit for me, I would say something that is comfortable and flattering for a postpartum body. Something that shows the curves, but hides the lumps and bumps.

I have to admit that I really struggle to find garments I would be confident going out in to a special event, or for a night out. However, finding Sitting Pretty and their new range – it was like I finally found home.

I have fallen madly in love with the Coco Double V Neck Jumpsuit. It is incredibly comfortable, and is elasticated in all of the right places. It really suits my body type and shape, and I have had uncountable compliments when I have been out. I’ve paired it with a pair of sneakers, and also wore it to an event  with a pair of wedges. It is so easy to match with absolutely anything that you already own, and you can dress it up or down with ease. The quality is phenomenal! Jumpsuits and dresses with pockets are a winner for me! Made from 100% Rayon Linen, this garment keeps you cool on a hot day, and is just flawless!

Photos: Angela Rea Photography

The dress caught my eye because of its delicate detail. The little bit of lace really caught my attention. I love the way the dress flows as you move. The guava shade is quite a rare colour, but I couldn’t resist. It is fresh and perfect for Summer. I love that the dress has three quarter sleeves – it is ideal for cooler summer days or evenings. The dress is also elasticized around the waist area, which really creates some shape and emphasizes your good curves. It is so comfortable, and is also perfect for mom bods. Again, the quality is phenomenal, so this is a piece of clothing that will stay fashionable and maintain its quality for many years.

As I mentioned, I struggle to find clothes that really stand out from the rest. I struggle to find designers who get their sizing correct when buying online. And one of my flaws is always having high expectations, often leaving me disappointed – however, my expectations were blown, and I was highly impressed and happy with my order.

You can most certainly find some gorgeous essential garments to add to your wardrobe. Add them to your wish list for Christmas, or just simply spoil yourself! You deserve it! Their entire Spring/Summer 2018 collection is flawless!

It has been wonderful watching Sitting Pretty grow from strength to strength having started in 2009
