Summer With Topshop.

Today, I am sharing something slightly different with you. This isn’t a product review nor a competition, but rather just a few outfits I love from Topshop SA that I shot with Tegan Smith Photography.

IMG_3337

The skirt has such a beautiful movement when the breeze catches it, and I really found that the monochrome stripes just complimented my body so well – making me look slim and tall! The slight flare to the arm of the black top was subtle but gorgeous. And the pastel pink shoes – I am obsessed! The entire outfit is perfect for a night out with the girls. Daff did a casual half up-do hairstyle and very natural makeup for this look.

This second look was a little edgy in comparison to my usual choice of outfit, but I loved it! I was a bit skeptical about wearing a dress that had a small opening, however, it is in the perfect position, which means it flaunts the non postpartum part of my tummy. The floral print is perfect for summer, and the leather jacket just ups it’s edginess a little. I loved the cute pastel pink clutch which complimented my shoes perfectly. I just wore my hair down for this look and again, my makeup is simple.

If you are a mom who is reading this, DO dress up, and DO sometimes follow that urge you have to get a little bit adventurous with your outfits. I had so much fun.

All of these looks (head to toe) are available at Topshop SA. So, it is super easy for you to get the complete outfit by simply popping into their store.

Look out for the next 3 looks coming soon!

Birthday Pampering – Rouge Day Spa

The hype from my 25th birthday two weeks ago is finally fading away, and the fatigue has set in after my sons third birthday last weekend. I think I was on some sort of high, perhaps some supernatural Adrenalin that ad kicked in that kept me going. Birthday party planning and semi-renovating our home at the same time. Call me crazy.

But, the one thing that hasn’t faded is my beautiful gelish nails that I had done as an early birthday treat at Rouge Day Spa a couple days before my birthday. What better way to spoil a girl and mom? Some down time, to herself to be pampered!

6

Rouge Day Spa has always been my go-to Spa. And, no! I’m NOT being paid to say that. Having been an old home before they bought it and transformed it into a cozy day spa, it’s just exactly what they call it: ‘Your home away from home’. It has become just that to me.

I get to sip on my HOT coffee in front of a fire without being interrupted by a toddler 46 times. I don’t have to get up even once to help him use the loo or to get him a drink, and then change the cup because it wasn’t the correct one. I can just close down the brain temporarily and be ALONE! It’s wonderful!

2

On a hot summer day, you can have your treatment and then stay for as long as you like after (get a babysitter!!!) and sip on a glass of champagne and have a swim in their gorgeous salt water pool.

They’re also home to my absolute favourite organic, natural spray tan – Vita Liberata!

IMG_1140

And, it gets better – you can even join them for a girls movie night with your girlfriends to watch chick flicks and have your nails done while munching on some popcorn. The benefit is that, again – you don’t have to worry about any small humans bothering you or having your husband changing channels while you’re watching your movie.

Rouge Day Spa is just a treat. It’s my escape, my place of sanity, and it’s all I find that I need once in awhile to reboot my energy and my sanity. Every mom needs a little time to invest in themselves in order to be a good wife/partner and mother.

7

On a side note,I also find that in comparison to the walk in spas that you find in shopping centers, my gelish stays fresh at least a week longer after having it done at Rouge. They use quality products and really do a fantastic job.

I’ve had many treatments at Rouge, and every single one of them has been flawless! I’m comfortable, relaxed and leave feeling sane and ready to face the world again.

Rouge Day Spa is located in Kenilworth, Cape Town and you can find their price list and treatments on their website:

PS. They also have loads of weekly specials and sell some amazing products at their salon!

Finding My Confidence As A Woman, Not Only As ‘Mom’.

This may not mean much to you, but if you’re a mother – maybe something about this will hit home. Becoming a mother shouldn’t mean that you lose your identity as a woman. It shouldn’t mean that you lose your confidence because your body has changed shape and gained a few extra stretch marks here and there.

LisaNew

I lost so much confidence in myself. Having done a lot of modeling before I fell pregnant, in fact my first swimwear editorial in the Zigzag Surfing Magazine when I was 5 week pregnant (I didn’t know yet) – that was the last shoot I did on my own apart from my maternity shoot. Olly then started to become my ‘comfort blanket’.

I declined shoots that would be of only myself because I didn’t feel confident without him.

I recently had a thought cross my mind. I am not just ‘Olly’s mom’. I am also a partner to my man, and a woman. I have so much more that defines me, and that makes me who I am that just being a mother.

PorterFilmPhotoLisa1

When Terence Orpen and I started chatting about collaborating on a shoot while he was down from Joburg, I couldn’t give up the offer. I knew that this was my time to get raw and real as a woman, on my own. It had been almost four years since the last time – and although I felt nervous, I knew that it would boost my confidence and teach me to learn to love myself again – all of myself.

I had the most incredible afternoon – one that was about adventuring, driving around the peninsula and finding beautiful spots that represented me as a person. The wind in my hair, the sand between my toes. Raw emotion that was captured so perfectly.

Here are just a few photos that I have received so far. And I love that they are imperfectly perfect. That they represent every inch of me, and of who I am now.

PorterFilmPhotoLisa4

Thank you Terence for helping me see myself in a new light. I found my favourite photograph from this shoot from my entire existence. Something I would have never have had if I didn’t take the leap of faith and just do this.

Ceramic Loving.

I’ve been slightly, and strangely (is it strange though?) obsessed with buying special mugs, plates, bowls, and cups lately. Home-ware overall, actually! Maybe it’s because we are living in our own home now, and finally aren’t renting anymore. Preparing for renovations and finally creating our dream home in the next few months. Or, maybe it’s just because I am growing up, and am starting to appreciate the beauty in things we use on a daily basis or when we entertain and have people over for coffee or dinner.

SAMSUNG CSC

I’ve always been in love with the home-ware from Country Road, and I do have quite a few items from there, but I have also had fun browsing small, local stores at markets and online. My latest favourite is a small company run by a beautiful local, soon to be wed lady, Kate. Her full time job is a manager at Zando, and her secret love affair is Potsicle Ceramics. The name defines her and her business perfectly! ‘Potsicle’, just the sweetest name to go hand in hand with some of the most gorgeous, imperfectly perfect ceramics that she hand makes herself.

potheart06_styled

I sent Kate a few reference pictures of what I like, and told her to be creative as I love her own personal style. I was so eager to see what she would create, and oh my goodness, am I in love! It arrived on my door step a couple of weeks later (it’s a process), and let’s just say that Kate is a bubble wrapping queen! My package arrived all in one piece, and I giggled as I unwrapped all of the bubble wrap! I’m sure I actually gasped when I first held my complete pieces in my hands. They are beautiful.

SAMSUNG CSC

I’m so excited to have some girls over for tea so that I can fill the plates up with home baked treats, just so that I can show them off! The quality of my ceramics are phenomenal, not a single flaw.

SAMSUNG CSC

These would make such wonderful gifts for a wedding. You can do your very own custom order if you wish, and create something personal and special for either yourself, a friend or a couple getting married. I think I may even be placing an order before too long for a little set to be made for a special baby that is soon to be born. We were gifted with a Jamie Oliver set that included a small ceramic plate, bowl and cup. And I just loved the idea. But, to be able to choose what you want yourself, to make it personal and special just wins over my heart!

potset05

Kate, you’ve made me one happy lady with these beautiful Potsicle Ceramics. I can see through your work that you love what you do so very much. Thank you!

That Postpartum Self-Image.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, with your pregnant belly or postpartum body staring back at you, how do you feel?

3T6A0085

Without even being entirely aware of it the majority of the time, and rather finding myself in a little bit of an emotional place in my life at times and then thinking back to life since falling pregnant up until now and sort of waking up to the fact that I’ve been feeling this particular way for much longer than I thought, rather than just going through stages of feeling like this.

3T6A0478

It is so challenging learning to love your body with all of the changes that have come with it since falling pregnant. It truly is something that I have struggled with more than I have even been aware of. I love my body for what it has allowed me to achieve. I love my body for blessing me with the opportunity to carry a baby, to birth a baby and to be mostly healthy. But, I also struggle on a daily basis with 100% loving what it now looks like.

3T6A0280

I sometimes find myself in a bit of a negative place. I get frustrated with myself for complaining to myself or to David about weight that I have gained, and then not doing anything about it. I get irritated with myself for getting my mind so set on eating better, and then failing. I get so cross with myself when I spend so much time trying to feed Olly healthy food, and then I give into a quick microwave meal because I’m just so exhausted at the end of a day.

3T6A0325

I find myself feeling overwhelmed, but know that I can so easily avoid that by just planning and preparing weekly meals for my entire family on a day that isn’t quite so overwhelming.

I know I’m totally normal. I know that every mom feels this way at some point or another, and I know that my body has been through uncountable changes, some that I will never truly understand since falling pregnant.

3T6A0355

And then… then I did this photo-shoot with Radiefa Peters from Radz Photography. I threw myself in the deep end by choosing two dresses that I wouldn’t usually choose purely because of how I feel about my body. I took the leap, I did it. And when I got my photos back, it was almost like something triggered in my brain for the very first time since I can remember. I felt beautiful. I looked at the photographs, and for the first time in a very long time, I liked what I saw. Not the story behind the photo, or how Olly looked – but I actually smiled when I zoomed in and looked and re-looked at myself in the photos.

3T6A0150

Not many people are capable of making somebody feel that way about themselves. And I also have to hand some of the credit over to Daff Kansley, the talented makeup artist who partly gave me the confidence to actually leave the house in the first place. And to Jody from Flock Fashion & Accessories for the beautiful wardrobe that you provided me with.

3T6A0438

Getting these images back, and seeing how happy I looked in the photos has just given me the desire I needed to get myself back in shape – to stick to my exercise routine, and to stick to preparing healthy meals for my family. Why? Because a healthy self-image creates a healthy, happy individual. And me being happy means that everybody who crosses my path will leave feeling happier too.

Behind The Lens With Radz Photography

I recently shot with the very talented and creative Radiefa Peters from Radz Photography along the beautiful Sea Point Promenade. What a wonderful, strong team of women to work with – Hannah Kruyer from @shewolfsa who did my hair and makeup (I’ve never felt so beautiful) and my wardrobe from Movepretty.

3T6A0515

What I wanted to achieve was a special bond between mother and son. I do try to live a healthy and active lifestyle, and I try not to let being a mother and having a busy life with a toddler, being a work from home mom as an excuse to not have the time to be active – because it is so easy to include them in your workouts, especially from home or not in a gym environment.

I was nervous to climb into gym clothes and in front of the camera – exposing my jiggly mommy tum and prancing around showing it off in one of the most active areas in Cape Town – along the Promenade. But, WOW! I was immediately made feel comfortable and beautiful working with Radiefa (who just knew exactly what she was doing, the best angles and poses). The shoot was quick and simple. We were also blessed to have Hannah on our team who was fantastic to have on set. I think all in all, it was just the best group to work with.

3T6A0203

I got my photos back within the next few days, and was actually blown away by the photos. She just captured us beyond my expectations. Radiefa generally shoots weddings and fashion, and not so much children. But, she is incredibly talented and was just so gentle and guided us so well, that I would highly recommend working with her as a family.

I was bursting with excitement to share this Behind The Lens with you. So, do keep reading to find out more about Radiefa and how she started in this highly competitive industry as a photographer:

Take A Moment For YOU (& Win)

I find it quite rare to find skincare and beauty products that truly work to the extent that they have been promoted to work. I am often very weary about what I buy, and whether I should or shouldn’t spend money on something I don’t know enough about.

A local mom, Lauren has recently become a distributor of AP24 and NU Skin. I’ve watched from the distance as she slowly started her own little business called ‘Flutter Me Pretty‘ so that she could stay home with her sweet baby boy, Luke. As time has gone by, she has posted her own personal photographs of how the products have helped her along the way, and I’ve been so amazed. I love seeing personal photographs as I feel that it feels real and honest.

So, Lauren sent me a couple of her personal favourite products that she knew would be relevant in my day to day life. I received the following in the crisp white boxes, and I honestly felt like it was a spa day.

  • NU Skin Polishing Peel
  • AP24 Whitening Flouride Toothpaste
  • NU Skin Creamy Hydrating Masque

SAMSUNG CSC

I’m amazed at how much money I actually waste on buying different beauty and skincare products because I spontaneously buy something that I’ve seen adverts on TV for, and then find it does nothing good to my skin, so it ends up piling up in my drawer because it actually doesn’t do what it says it will.

  1. NU Skin Polishing Peel

SAMSUNG CSC

I have only used this product three times since I received it and its really interesting. You rub it onto you skin as if you are applying moisturizer, then leave it for a couple of minutes and then rub your skin in circular movements and the dry polishing peel just falls off. It is an amazing product that isn’t harsh to your skin like many similar products are. With my sensitive skin, I didn’t find that it reacted negatively with my skin at all. My skin was left feeling smooth and fresh. As Lauren explained to me, microdermabrasion is becoming the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure available, and this polishing peel offers an alternative to the professional treatments which delivers a fresh, healthy complexion. The peel features pumpkin enzymes to resurface, soften and polish the skin and the Bentonite Clay to remove the dull/dead skin cells and toxins. You can use this up to 3 times a week.

2. AP24 Whitening Flouride Toothpaste

SAMSUNG CSC

Ok, so this product out of all of them is my magic! I was a smoker before falling pregnant and I love my coffee. My teeth, however hate me for both. I am lucky to not have teeth that are obviously stained, but I obviously notice it myself. I honestly cannot believe how well this toothpaste works. I’ve tried all of the whitening toothpastes on the market, and none ever actually work. But over two weeks, I can clearly see a difference. Lauren suggested I do two dry brushes with the toothpaste first, and then to continue using as usual. The toothpaste tastes great, leaves an amazing aftertaste – almost like you’re chewing minty gum and keeps your breath fresh for ages. It’s a nice thick toothpaste which I like, I can’t stand the type that are thin and watery. Definitely consider ordering this if you find that your teeth are discoloured! A bonus is that it has no harmful peroxides or bleaches added which is a huge pro to me. Obviously toothpaste is an essential in every household, and you might as well be using something that is going to fulfill what you buy a product for.

3. NU Skin Creamy Hydrating Masque

SAMSUNG CSC

I’ve really enjoyed using this. As mentioned above and in every skincare review I do – I have very sensitive skin. If a product is fragranced or made with bad ingredients, the tender skin area beneath my eyes burns and goes red and rough. This product is stunning. It is easy to rub in, but is reasonably thick – but the right consistency for it to be rubbed in without feeling like you have a heavy layer of moisturizer or. Also, I always moisturize before applying my foundation and I’ve used moisturizers before that are so thick and almost leave my skin feeling too dry to apply my foundation on top of it. So this is perfect! It has a lovely, gentle scent to it and also leaves my skin feeling healthy and glowing! The beauty of it is that as it moisturizes, it infuses soothing nutrients into the skin at the same time!

What I’m trying to say here is that we are all moms and women who live very busy lives. One of the things I can’t stand is waking up each morning and seeing these dark rings and bags beneath my eyes. I always look tired and it’s just not a pleasant feeling to always feel that way. We need to look after our skin and our bodies now so that we don’t regret it when we are older and begin to age.

These products aren’t CHEAP, but they are worth every cent spent on them, because they actually do their job. They aren’t rubbish products, and they will last you a long time. They will also actually be used and not packed away in your drawer, because firstly, they look beautiful, and secondly, because you’ll be using them so frequently.

I’m so excited about my find that we are giving away a hamper with all of the above products valued at R800 in on my Facebook account. You can earn yourself three entries into the competition. The first step HAS to be completed, but the second two are just extras if you have the time.

1. Enter on Facebook:
2. Follow both @fluttermepretty90 and @onemodernmom on Instagram
3. Subscribe to my blog and leave me a comment on this post to share your thoughts with me on the above.

I can’t wait for you ladies to give these products a try because my skin and my teeth are thanking me for religiously using them over the past two weeks!

Enter Your Weekend Sweetly

While popping into The Body Shop for a hostess gift I need for this weekend, I saw their awesome special of 30 percent off fragrances for men and women. So while I was waiting for the cashier to ring up my purchase I started randomly spritzing them. And boy was I surprised.
I absolutely love Indian Night Jasmine. While living in Tulbagh we had a gorgeous Jasmine creeper edging our rose garden and whenever it started to bloom I would know that Spring was on it’s way. This fragrance takes me right back to that glorious sunshine, happy feeling. I have been trying to find my fragrance identity for a while now and therefore whenever I pass a fragrance counter(no doubt high end) I always stop and sample.
000 (1 of 1)
And now I have found what I am looking for and at such a reasonable price too. I don’t know about you but I always hoard my fragrances and only use them on special nights and occasions but these are so reasonable that I bought both the fragrance mist and the eau de toilette and shall feel totally at ease even spritzing away even before gym.

The packaging is quite classic and will look beautiful on anyone’s dressing table or bathroom counter. This is definitely something I shall pick up again without the guilty feeling that Elijah will have to go without nappies.

Lots of love

Angela

Make Your Statement with ByRoeline

ByRoeline is a very special Knysna based clothing collection for babies, kids and adults. By Roeline is a collection of minimalist, ethically made threads.

I came across ByRoeline on Instagram one day, and just loved what I saw on her online store. There was an obvious love and passion for what she does, and just so much truth printed on her garments. Ranging from adults tshirts, babygrows, fancy bibs, bags, décor items and Christian prints – she really has a good variety of meaningful garments for all of us, and so reasonably priced!

Roeline was sweet enough to send me one of her t-shirts to add to my ‘Moms Christmas Wish list’. She let me choose one from her ‘Adult’ collection.  I must admit, it was tough to choose just one, but I couldn’t resist the plain white 100% cotton tee that read ‘I’m not like a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.’ Doesn’t this just hit home for each of us?

Chatting to Roeline, I felt as if I had known her a lifetime. Such an incredibly sweet, professional local creative. She certainly does know how to follow trends with the colours she offers, and knows how to make a simple saying a very bold statement.

Her baby grows are just divine. Some cute and quirky, and others with a very special, meaningful scripture, complete with a beautiful, delicate pattern.  These are definitely must-have’s to keep aside for baby shower gifts.

It makes my heart overflow with joy when I find a company that stays true to their word – and I often find that when I order online, I don’t get what I saw online. But, with ByRoeline, you get everything and more. That promised comfort, the eco-friendly complete garment and the fit that is explained to you on her website. I love this! There’s no going wrong when ordering online with her.

My order arrived within a day of ordering and it was even packaged beautifully in a little bag which held my gem of a garment! It’s the little things that leave us running back!

This is only the start of an ongoing relationship for me with this incredible new company who is without a doubt going places.

You can find her online store at: http://byroeline.co.za/

Thank you to Angela Rea Makeup for the makeup and photos.

Treat Yourself, Mom!

My life is slowly steering itself in the organic direction, and I am quite happy to let it sail that way to be quite honest. I have always been reasonably health conscious, and when I say that I mean with the things I digest – be it food or drinks, as well as what I feed my son. However, in the past year or so, I’ve slowly been directing my attention to organic products too. Skincare products, clothing (hence, starting my own Eco-friendly clothing line), toys, food, etc. I think it is something that really needs to happen to help save our environment, especially to create a better world for our little people to grow up in.
One of the skincare companies that I have recently tried and fallen head over heels for is a local company, Skin Creamery. The ingredients used are all certified organic products, all components of natural essential oils and as they advertise – 100% of the total ingredients are from natural origin.

Skin Creamery sent me two of their brand new products (which will be available to purchase online or at Kamers from tomorrow until Sunday. I would like to share my experience on both of these products with you!

1. Sesame Oil / Baobab / Melon Seed Oil-Milk Cleanser
This Oil-Milk Cleanser is magic! I have never come across a face wash that can totally remove my waterproof mascara! It literally doesn’t leave a single trace of mascara with one simple pimp of cleanser! I was actually left feeling a bit dumbfounded and wondered if I had just imagined actually applying any that morning! I tried it again the next night, and TA-DA, it was true. You only need one small pump of cleanser which you’ll apply to your DRY face, neck and eyes. You’ll then rinse with warm water, and ALL makeup and impurities will be lifted from your skin. This Oil-Milk Cleanser really leaves my face feeling fresh and healthy!

14805406_1250202485000273_1775253414_n

2. Baobab / Malachite / Rose Two-Phase Skin Tonic
The Skin Tonic is something I’ve never heard of before, but I wish I had known about it sooner! The packaging explains that the water phase contains malachite, a mineral-rich crystal extract with powerful antioxidant and skin protecting properties. Baobab fruit powder, which is high in vitamin C, is infused into organic rose water to create a vitamin-rich floral splash. Rose water balances the skin’s PH and adds a touch of toning magic.

This is an amazing product that will rejuvenate damaged and tired skin. Does that not sound marvelous for us moms who don’t have all morning to treat our skin?
I’ve been following this little routine morning and evening – wash face with Oil-Milk Cleanser followed by 3 squirts of the Skin Tonic into the palm of my hand which gets applied to my cleansed skin, and I’m ready to take on the World.
With the sensitive skin that I have, I’ve ended up with dry, itchy skin that feels like sandpaper at times due to the awful ingredients that get tossed into many of the non-organic skincare products. I have really battled to find a local skincare product that is easy to access for this particular use. I have finally found it, and I don’t plan on going back to the products I used before. It feels great to be able to wash my face and to NOT have a face that stings afterwards. I will pay any amount of money for that.
These products come in glass bottles, which has an incredibly odd ability of making me feel like I’ve really been spoilt, and makes me feel that extra bit more ‘beautiful’ and ‘luxurious’ when using them. It also makes them totally recyclable!
It is rare to find products that are Cruelty Free, aren’t tested on animals, vegan and totally recyclable.

14812993_1250202501666938_1504081381_o
I feel like to be a good mom, we need to learn to look after ourselves too! I think it’s one of the most common mistakes that we make – we feel that we come last, but actually, in order to have the ability to be a good mom, we need to invest time into ourselves, we need to take a moment to reflect on ourselves, to pamper ourselves (even if that means painting our nails while enjoying a cup of tea, or soaking in the bath with a little bath bomb that we spoilt ourselves with. BUT, do not neglect yourselves!

14876111_1258195387534316_296212083_o

Also, invest in products that you truly believe in, and ones that work for you and your skin type! I can assure you that these above products are going to last you longer than the store bought ones, because you only need to use so little at a time!
These products are on my ‘SUMMER ESSENTIALS’ list. They are bound to leave your skin feeling fresh and hydrated after days spent in the sun.
