That Postpartum Self-Image.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, with your pregnant belly or postpartum body staring back at you, how do you feel?

3T6A0085

Without even being entirely aware of it the majority of the time, and rather finding myself in a little bit of an emotional place in my life at times and then thinking back to life since falling pregnant up until now and sort of waking up to the fact that I’ve been feeling this particular way for much longer than I thought, rather than just going through stages of feeling like this.

3T6A0478

It is so challenging learning to love your body with all of the changes that have come with it since falling pregnant. It truly is something that I have struggled with more than I have even been aware of. I love my body for what it has allowed me to achieve. I love my body for blessing me with the opportunity to carry a baby, to birth a baby and to be mostly healthy. But, I also struggle on a daily basis with 100% loving what it now looks like.

3T6A0280

I sometimes find myself in a bit of a negative place. I get frustrated with myself for complaining to myself or to David about weight that I have gained, and then not doing anything about it. I get irritated with myself for getting my mind so set on eating better, and then failing. I get so cross with myself when I spend so much time trying to feed Olly healthy food, and then I give into a quick microwave meal because I’m just so exhausted at the end of a day.

3T6A0325

I find myself feeling overwhelmed, but know that I can so easily avoid that by just planning and preparing weekly meals for my entire family on a day that isn’t quite so overwhelming.

I know I’m totally normal. I know that every mom feels this way at some point or another, and I know that my body has been through uncountable changes, some that I will never truly understand since falling pregnant.

3T6A0355

And then… then I did this photo-shoot with Radiefa Peters from Radz Photography. I threw myself in the deep end by choosing two dresses that I wouldn’t usually choose purely because of how I feel about my body. I took the leap, I did it. And when I got my photos back, it was almost like something triggered in my brain for the very first time since I can remember. I felt beautiful. I looked at the photographs, and for the first time in a very long time, I liked what I saw. Not the story behind the photo, or how Olly looked – but I actually smiled when I zoomed in and looked and re-looked at myself in the photos.

3T6A0150

Not many people are capable of making somebody feel that way about themselves. And I also have to hand some of the credit over to Daff Kansley, the talented makeup artist who partly gave me the confidence to actually leave the house in the first place. And to Jody from Flock Fashion & Accessories for the beautiful wardrobe that you provided me with.

3T6A0438

Getting these images back, and seeing how happy I looked in the photos has just given me the desire I needed to get myself back in shape – to stick to my exercise routine, and to stick to preparing healthy meals for my family. Why? Because a healthy self-image creates a healthy, happy individual. And me being happy means that everybody who crosses my path will leave feeling happier too.

The Reality Of Sugar.

Did you know that over feeding your kids sugar from a young age can create an incredibly unhealthy sugar addiction for them as adults? Also, did you know that rewarding your kids with food isn’t always a healthy idea either. I find that people often laugh at me or shrug off the intensity of sugar. I often find myself cringing when I see the food that kids eat on a daily basis. I’m not judging, but rather wish that I could educate them on how desperately kids need a healthy diet for their tiny bodies and to help their brains work at their full capacity.

Here’s my own personal story:
SUGAR & TODDLERS = MINIATURE MONSTERS

Copyright © Matt Masson 2017 Image 014

Without exaggerating, it was literally three minutes ago that I gave my son two teenie tiny SweeTarts. (My absolute favourite candy that my dear friend brought me back from the States.) I couldn’t resist sharing with Olly, because, of course, they remind me of my own childhood visiting the States to see my family.

My mistake! He had been happily playing outside in the mud, when he came inside to ask me to roll up his sleeves. I then handed him two of these little sweets. One for each hand. Within a matter of minutes – three to be exact, he turned from a sweet little boy who was happily entertaining himself, to literally screaming, spitting, and just being ugly. Define ugly: shouting, not listening to me, making horrible sounds, and just being all round RUDE.

It is mindblowing what sugar can do! And I think that we underestimate the power of it. I’ve done an article on healthy eating before, and I have always been quite strict on what Olly eats. From a young age, he had a gluten intolerance, which meant that we had to be careful about what he ate. But, as he’s gotten slightly older, it isn’t nearly as severe as what it used to be, thankfully! However, at the same time – it seems that we have sort of loosened the ropes on steering away from sugar.

Olly will generally choose water over juice. He will never get any juice apart from 100% fruit juice that we dilute mostly in water. For school lunches and at home, he will generally get fresh fruit and nuts with his rice cake or sandwich or sometimes dried fruit. He also, surprisingly LOVES having baby tomatoes in his lunch box. Strange kid.

BUT, he’s a kid, and somehow he manages to persuade us to give him the BAD treats. That’s the kind of treats that are okay at a birthday party on the odd occassion. But, NOT to have on a daily basis. I never reward with food – for instance, he will never get sweets or a biscuit or snacks if he goes potty on his own, or does something good. I’ve learnt that it’s a no no, thanks to Munchkins parenting coach, Celeste Rushby who I used to au pair for and learnt so much from over time.

The problem is that when he catches David or myself munching on a biscuit, or a peice of chocolate or somebody happens to open a packet of chips, he comes running from the other end of the house (where he couldn’t hear me calling him from) to see ‘what we have for him’. I know that the immediate and obvious solution would be to just not eat that kind of thing when he is up and about and to rather save it for when he is asleep, and look – it isn’t a daily thing. I’m making it sound as if we constantly have junk food in hand, which isn’t the case at all. We never prioritize pudding for him after dinner. Every now and then he will have a yoghurt with a banana, or stewed apple which is home made with a drizzle of custard.

But – WHEN HE DOES have sugar – it’s as if I have a totally different child in front of me. And it scares the living daylights out of me. I do not like the child he becomes. The high is short and the low is long and dreadful. Totally not worth it! It’s the worst thing you can give your child – honestly.

I want to suggest that you (and I) replace the junk treats for healthier alternatives. Dried fruits, rice cakes coated in carob, dark chocolate, biltong or droerwors – you catch my drift. I struggle to wrap my mind around why I feel the need to give Olly sugar when he’s totally content, happy and polite (you almost feel as if you want to give them something nice as a treat to secretly reward their behavior) just to turn them into the opposite of what they are.

Olly LOVES his healthy snacks. He honestly does, and always has! And so, my July resolution – OUT WITH THE JUNK, IN WITH THE HEALTHY.

Natural sugar in small doses is totally OK! And every now and then, a sugary treat isn’t a bad thing. But, if you want to see a change in your kids behaviour and attitudes, choose snacks that have no added sugar, no colourants, MSG or flavourants, etc. You catch my drift. Don’t make sugar an expected thing in your home. And for those of you with young babies that aren’t yet there – start your babes off not even knowing what it is – because they don’t need it! They get all of the sugar they need through fruit!

Sorry about my long rambles, I was just actually so shocked this morning watching how such a small amount of sugar made my sweet child turn into a monster in such a short amount of time.

So, I just wanted to raise the awareness about how SUGAR is really a drug when consumed too frequently. And there are so many alternatives that you can rather choose from. Maybe I should do a post on some alternatives that you can choose from that don’t cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks for reading, and I would love to hear your perspectives and ideas on this.

Take A Moment For YOU (& Win)

I find it quite rare to find skincare and beauty products that truly work to the extent that they have been promoted to work. I am often very weary about what I buy, and whether I should or shouldn’t spend money on something I don’t know enough about.

A local mom, Lauren has recently become a distributor of AP24 and NU Skin. I’ve watched from the distance as she slowly started her own little business called ‘Flutter Me Pretty‘ so that she could stay home with her sweet baby boy, Luke. As time has gone by, she has posted her own personal photographs of how the products have helped her along the way, and I’ve been so amazed. I love seeing personal photographs as I feel that it feels real and honest.

So, Lauren sent me a couple of her personal favourite products that she knew would be relevant in my day to day life. I received the following in the crisp white boxes, and I honestly felt like it was a spa day.

  • NU Skin Polishing Peel
  • AP24 Whitening Flouride Toothpaste
  • NU Skin Creamy Hydrating Masque

SAMSUNG CSC

I’m amazed at how much money I actually waste on buying different beauty and skincare products because I spontaneously buy something that I’ve seen adverts on TV for, and then find it does nothing good to my skin, so it ends up piling up in my drawer because it actually doesn’t do what it says it will.

  1. NU Skin Polishing Peel

SAMSUNG CSC

I have only used this product three times since I received it and its really interesting. You rub it onto you skin as if you are applying moisturizer, then leave it for a couple of minutes and then rub your skin in circular movements and the dry polishing peel just falls off. It is an amazing product that isn’t harsh to your skin like many similar products are. With my sensitive skin, I didn’t find that it reacted negatively with my skin at all. My skin was left feeling smooth and fresh. As Lauren explained to me, microdermabrasion is becoming the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure available, and this polishing peel offers an alternative to the professional treatments which delivers a fresh, healthy complexion. The peel features pumpkin enzymes to resurface, soften and polish the skin and the Bentonite Clay to remove the dull/dead skin cells and toxins. You can use this up to 3 times a week.

2. AP24 Whitening Flouride Toothpaste

SAMSUNG CSC

Ok, so this product out of all of them is my magic! I was a smoker before falling pregnant and I love my coffee. My teeth, however hate me for both. I am lucky to not have teeth that are obviously stained, but I obviously notice it myself. I honestly cannot believe how well this toothpaste works. I’ve tried all of the whitening toothpastes on the market, and none ever actually work. But over two weeks, I can clearly see a difference. Lauren suggested I do two dry brushes with the toothpaste first, and then to continue using as usual. The toothpaste tastes great, leaves an amazing aftertaste – almost like you’re chewing minty gum and keeps your breath fresh for ages. It’s a nice thick toothpaste which I like, I can’t stand the type that are thin and watery. Definitely consider ordering this if you find that your teeth are discoloured! A bonus is that it has no harmful peroxides or bleaches added which is a huge pro to me. Obviously toothpaste is an essential in every household, and you might as well be using something that is going to fulfill what you buy a product for.

3. NU Skin Creamy Hydrating Masque

SAMSUNG CSC

I’ve really enjoyed using this. As mentioned above and in every skincare review I do – I have very sensitive skin. If a product is fragranced or made with bad ingredients, the tender skin area beneath my eyes burns and goes red and rough. This product is stunning. It is easy to rub in, but is reasonably thick – but the right consistency for it to be rubbed in without feeling like you have a heavy layer of moisturizer or. Also, I always moisturize before applying my foundation and I’ve used moisturizers before that are so thick and almost leave my skin feeling too dry to apply my foundation on top of it. So this is perfect! It has a lovely, gentle scent to it and also leaves my skin feeling healthy and glowing! The beauty of it is that as it moisturizes, it infuses soothing nutrients into the skin at the same time!

What I’m trying to say here is that we are all moms and women who live very busy lives. One of the things I can’t stand is waking up each morning and seeing these dark rings and bags beneath my eyes. I always look tired and it’s just not a pleasant feeling to always feel that way. We need to look after our skin and our bodies now so that we don’t regret it when we are older and begin to age.

These products aren’t CHEAP, but they are worth every cent spent on them, because they actually do their job. They aren’t rubbish products, and they will last you a long time. They will also actually be used and not packed away in your drawer, because firstly, they look beautiful, and secondly, because you’ll be using them so frequently.

I’m so excited about my find that we are giving away a hamper with all of the above products valued at R800 in on my Facebook account. You can earn yourself three entries into the competition. The first step HAS to be completed, but the second two are just extras if you have the time.

I can’t wait for you ladies to give these products a try because my skin and my teeth are thanking me for religiously using them over the past two weeks!

A Faithful To Nature Lifestyle.

Faithful To Nature is a local, Cape Town based company that sells a large variety of organic, health conscious products. Ranging from food, beauty, child, home and pets – they really do have everything you could possibly need when experimenting with perhaps moving into a healthier lifestyle, or continuing with your healthy life, easily. Faithful To Nature is an online store, packed to the brim with the best products you can possibly find. Each product has a clear description of what it can be used for, it’s benefits and most importantly, the ingredients. I love this! If it weren’t for that, it would be totally overwhelming – but with everything laid out so informatively, I really enjoyed educating myself on what is out there!

I placed my order on their website: https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/ on the Thursday morning – by Friday afternoon it had arrived on my doorstep. The glass products safely wrapped up so it there was no possibility of breakage. It honestly felt like both my birthday and Christmas day combined! I excitedly opened my box, and pulled out each of the products I had ordered.  Not only was I excited to see everything in true form – but I was really excited to actually try things out.

I ordered in categories that would obviously be most beneficial to me.

My skin has been breaking out around my chin area more than it has before. As a sufferer of PCos (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), it seems as if my menstrual cycle has become a lot more regular in the past couple of months (THIS IS A GOOD THING!!! Yay). My hormonal imbalance has obviously been a little out of the norm which has resulted in slight acne in that area. So, I wanted to try a few GOOD, and trustworthy, organic acne products.

  1. HOMESPUN APOTHECARY HIMALAYAN & ACTIVATED CHARCOAL MUD MASK : https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/homespun-apothecary-himalayan-activated-charcoal-mud-mask

SAMSUNG CSC

SAMSUNG CSC

A natural, vegan product which I have used twice since I received it. It recommends adding honey or yoghurt instead of water to create the paste if you desire, and so I added a little plain yoghurt. I was amazed at how it cleared out all of my pores, especially around the nose area. It also did a great job at drying out the pimples that I had on my chin. It left my skin feeling very soft. I like that you can easily see when it is time to wash the mask off, as the charcoal very obviously changes to a lighter colour once totally dry.

  1. ANGEL FACTORY BLACK DETOX FACE WASH:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/angel-factory-black-detox-face-wash

SAMSUNG CSC

Do yourself a favour by following the above link to read up in depth about this product. I’ve been so turned off of the face washes that you buy at the local supermarket. The amount of rubbish pumped into them is just insane! This product has done an amazing job at drying out my zits and leaving my skin feel fresh and free of toxins, pollution and bacteria it is exposed to each day (as they mention). It doesn’t burn my eyes, and it removes my waterproof mascara without any effort. It has a slight aniseed scent, but with sensitive skin, it doesn’t dry out my skin, or leave it stinging or itching!

  1. SIMPLY BEE NIGHT CREAM:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/simply-bee-night-cream

SAMSUNG CSC

I’m sure that each of us have beauty tips that we have learnt from our very wise mothers. My mom swears by her Simply Bee products. She has always used the Simply Bee Day Cream and the Simply Bee Night Cream. Every time I stay over at her house, or visit – I won’t leave without having used a little myself! This stuff is magic, it’s like the everlasting moisturizer! It seems to last forever. But, does it do the trick? 100 times yes. At 60 years old, my mom has beautiful skin. It is hydrated and beautiful. I apply this moisturizer after washing my face, before bed – and the moisture is still there when I wake up in the morning. There’s nothing like waking up with fresh skin! Because it is beeswax, you can imagine – it smells amazing!!!

SAMSUNG CSC

I’ve also been on the lookout for some organic beauty products. I find that the everyday beauty products are mostly wonderful for your overall appearance, however, they do my skin no justice in the long run. I refuse to buy products that are going to make my skin breakout, and I’m just so tired of not being satisfied with how my skin looks without makeup on!

  1. DR HAUSCHKA PURE CARE COVER STICK:

https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/beauty/makeup/face/dr-hauschka-pure-care-cover-stick

SAMSUNG CSC

Due to my skin being more acne prone, I’ve been looking for a good concealer that covers up, but will also allow my skin to breath.  So many times I have bought a cover up stick that makes my skin worse. The thing I love about the Dr Hauschka Pure Care Cover Stick was created with more than just one intention in mind. Apart from being used as makeup, it also has soothing and healing properties. I definitely HAVE noticed this when using it. Made with only natural ingredients, this wonderful product is made up with extracts of rose petal, calendula and kidney vetch for soothing & to work to visibly reduce redness. Beeswax for healing and protection as well as to help retain moisture. Tee tree oil for an anti-bacterial and anti-bacterial purpose, and Manuka oil to combat skin irritations and infections. This is one amazing product which I believe is an essential for in your makeup bag. It is worth every cent and it will last you forever!

  1. COULEUR CARAMEL VOLUMISING ORGANIC MASCARA:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/beauty/makeup/eyes/couleur-caramel-volumising-organic-mascara

SAMSUNG CSC

When I’m older, I will be distraught if I start losing my long eyelashes because of the awful mascara I bought and used. Just because a mascara is well-known and expensive, doesn’t mean that the ingredients are good for you. I have bought many well-known brands in the past that leave my eyes stinging when my eyes start to water. Often, even with a good makeup remover, I can’t get it all of my eyelashes before I go to bed. I must admit, it freaks me out a little. So, to find an organic mascara, that works perfectly, and doesn’t do any of the above, is just so great. HAPPY DANCE! This mascara is beautifully packaged, and comes in brown or black. It is also NOT tested on animals and is also packaged in recycled and recyclable materials. SCORE!!!

  1. THEONISTA BUCHU DELIGHT KOMBUCHA:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/food/drinks/kombucha/theonista-buchu-delight-kombucha

SAMSUNG CSC

Not quite beauty related, but it does look after your wellbeing. 😉 I first tried Kombucha at Babylonstoren just less than a year ago. I kept going back for more, and more, and more. I was surprised that I liked it, because it has an unusual taste that is honestly just so delicious. It is referred to by Faithful To Nature as ‘A brew of Health-In-A-Bottle’. Please don’t be put off when I tell you that Kombucha is a drink made from a unique combination of fermented buchu, honeybush and star anise which provides you with an array of living probiotics, organic enzymes, polyphenols, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It is absolutely divine, and totally refreshing. Believe it or not, my son loves it too! I took mine on a hike with me yesterday and enjoyed it beneath a waterfall. It provided me with energy and totally quenched my thirst. They now also offer a variety of flavours, which makes it quite fun if you enjoy Kombucha. It is also a natural energy drink. So, a fantastic drink to keep on hand for when you need a little energy boost!

Enough about me, as a mom, I naturally had to get my hands on a couple products for my two and a half year old son, too. But, before I begin – I have to RAVE about how wonderful the Faithful To Nature selection is for kids. The amount of eco-friendly toys, baby products and food they have is mind-blowing. And, I think I will be doing all of my kids party shopping on here from now on!

SAMSUNG CSC

  1. RUSH KIDS GRIZZLY BAR – COCONUT & CACAO:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/kids/mommies/food/rush-kids-grizzly-bar-coconut-cacao

SAMSUNG CSC

Too often do we find ourselves ‘filling’ up our kids stomachs with junk. Treats don’t have to be sweets and food that has absolutely no ingredients that are beneficial to your kids health. It freaks me out how companies promote food and drinks as lunchbox fillers and as ideal snacks for kids when they are literally packed with sugar, colorants and a bunch of crap. I can see exactly when my son has had sugar. I can do a countdown from once it has been finished, to when the wild child, with a lack of obedience and a naughty side gets exposed. The high is short, and the low is long and painful for us as parents. It honestly isn’t worth it. I did a little experiment with this product on Easter.  The Easter eggs from family were hidden, and I added this cute little bar to the hunt. The excitement for this was much higher than for the chocolate! I’m not speaking for all kids. I have a child who chooses a few slices of freshly cut mango with plain yoghurt over chocolate ice cream. But he does have sugar and I have just learnt that it isn’t a pleasant experience, ever! These are wonderful treats to keep on hand for when you’re at the shop, or out and about and they either deserve a treat, or need a little snack. They are totally healthy, have natural sugar in and really are just so delicious! They cost about the same amount as a packet of jelly tots, however, they are the CORRECT portion size for a child and you won’t have them screaming for more because it is filling and it isn’t a packet that has far more than what a child should have in a serving. I totally recommend getting your hands on a few of these!

  1. GOODSPOON – ORGANIC SUPERFOOD BLEND FOR KIDS:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/health/supplements-vitamins/kids-health/mr-goodspoon-organic-superfood-blend-for-kids

SAMSUNG CSC

Ironic, here’s me preaching about how my two and a half year old will choose fruit and yoghurt over chocolate ice-cream, but at the end of the day, toddlers will be toddlers and as moms we don’t always win.  But, we can…. I came across this Mr. GoodSpoon – Organic Superfood Blend For Kids. Basically, it is a powder that is packed with all of the goodness your child needs that gets dissolved and simply added to their smoothie or porridge. They won’t even know that it is happening. It’s so tough to get kids to eat their veggies as they start to know ‘better’. Broccoli and peas were once a veggie that we boasted to all of our friends that our tiny baby loved so much..and then the toddler years approach, and just like that – it’s as if they all begin to follow some ‘No Greens’ cult that us as parents aren’t aware of. This is magic, guys! My son loves his smoothies, and has been guzzling them down as usual without a care in the world. Veggies done for the day! Woop. I think I should start sneakily adding this to hubbies meals too!!!

  1. HAPE DOCTOR ON CALL:

SAMSUNG CSC

We very rarely buy toys for my son, as we find that playing outdoors is just so much more beneficial to him. The toys that he does have get carted outside with him and neglected because he has so much fun in his own imaginary world that he forgets about them. Toys can be such a waste of money as if you don’t buy the correct age toys for your child, they won’t be stimulated enough by them. However, I have always loved Hape. They have the most wonderful selection of wooden, educational toys for kids. Toys that have the Wow factor that continues, and not one that is exciting the moment it is opened, and then forgotten. In the past 2 months, Olly has shown a love for playing Doctor, and so when I saw this, I naturally felt the urge to order it for him. It is a set that he will love and be able to use for many more years, and an interactive toy that he can play and share with not only us but his friends. Being wooden, this will last forever, and it can be passed on when the time is right. The toys have been made with so much care and thought and actually WORK like the real thing. Olly just loves this Doctor set, and I am so happy I ordered it for him!

  1. VIRIDIAN BALANCED ZINC COMPLEX:
    https://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za/viridian-balanced-zinc-complex

SAMSUNG CSC

Again, back to my skin – I forgot to mention these Zinc capsules that I ordered to see if they would help clear up my skin. It always takes a little while for this type of thing to start visibly working, so I am yet to see an obvious change in my skin because of this in particular. Because I am trying three different products specifically for my skin, it’s challenging to know what is working the most. But there definitely has been some changes. Zinc, is however so good for so many different things, so I know that even if it doesn’t work so well for my skin, it’s still beneficial and certainly not a waste of money! I love that I only need to take one capsule a day, and that they don’t have a strong flavor.

Overall, I have had a phenomenal experience ordering through Faithful To Nature, and I will be back to order a few of the same things, and some new things again very soon! I’m so excited to try new products and to see the new products they bring in over time. Do yourself a favour and check out their website for yourself. You’ll be surprised just like I was, I’m sure!

View Your Body Through His Eyes

I’m pretty certain that by making this statement, it’s safe to say that I’m speaking for about 90% of women who have experienced pregnancy. Many of us aren’t quite sure how we feel about our pregnant and postpartum bodies! We aren’t all so comfortable with the changes, and it takes a huge toll on many of us emotionally! This being said, those changes can often affect our relationships intimately, not necessarily because our men think we are less attractive, but rather because of the way we view ourselves.

thumbnail_000-20-of-1

This doesn’t only happen whilst pregnant, but for a huge percentage of us, AFTER baby is here too! Gosh – to be maybe a little too honest, having been a breastfeeding mom, and perhaps due to slacking on the kegals and having had a natural birth, I always had the worry in the back of my mind of something leaking out while being intimate. (I’m still considering whether I should remove that??) Apart from that, we now have this empty belly and full or empty boobs that has teamed up with gravity, and just decide on which direction they’re headed without our say!

thumbnail_000-24-of-1

Apart from that, we all know about the stretch marks and cellulite that chose our bodies to move in with. I think being a mom, we all get the hint. I have a point to this, I swear!

thumbnail_000-25-of-1

THE POINT:
For Valentine’s Day, I decided that it was time to go a little out of my comfort zone, and to do a Boudoir shoot for hubby. He didn’t want to do expensive gifts, but sneakily, I not only wanted to do this for him, but for myself. I needed to take this step, and I had been encouraged by fellow moms to do this to see myself in a fresh, new light!

thumbnail_000-17-of-1
By now, you must know who Angela Rea is? If not, you’ve got some scrolling to do down this blog to familiarize yourself! Angela has joined One Modern Mom as a collaborator, and also helps out with some of the photography. I approached Angela with the concept, and she really encouraged it!

thumbnail_000-8-of-1-copythumbnail_000-21-of-1thumbnail_000-29-of-1

The morning of the shoot I went through to her house. She did my makeup (being a makeup artist) and we decided on the first ‘look’. I was nervous, but before long, it was just fun! Being the very down to earth, more sporty person that I am, I wanted to do something that showed who I truly am as a person.

thumbnail_000-20-of-1-1

We had such a fun morning, and I had such a good experience shooting my very first Boudoir shoot with Angela. I then got my photos back, one by one – and WOW! You truly do see yourself the way that hubby sees you! After giving him his gift, a little Boudoir Book of the best photos which I added my own words too, I asked him which photos were his favourite. I was amazed, and quite taken back when he answered me. Strangely enough it was the photos that showed my ‘imperfections’ the most. I just wanted to hug him.

thumbnail_000-33-of-1

Knowing that he loved this ‘flawed’ and stretched body just as much as my before pregnant body just blew my mind. Doing this shoot has given me confidence and a new found appreciation for all that my body went through to grow this tiny human. And knowing that hubby appreciated that just made my heart overflow with joy.

I have shared the tasteful photos here as the rest are for hubbies eyes only.
